Mongolian Wolf

Mongolian Wolf

The Mongolian (Eurasian) wolf is approximately 70 cm at the shoulder when adult. In Mongolia the wolf is not protected. There are about 70,000 individuals spread over Mongolia.

In June 2006, we were proposed to adopt a small cub taken from their den and whose mother was killed by hunters. She arrived just before our caravan departs in steppe, and she was one or two months old. At that time, two young dogs accompanied us in the caravan, and they quickly adopted the cub as a puppy.

For practical reasons and also for her safety (not ours) she was often tied or held in a leash with two our dogs.
The small wolf showed a strong fighting character and a wild, obsessive attitude with food.

I think that wild animals can live with human, in security. However, this experience has shown clearly that we must remain on our guard: the wild and unexpected side of the animal will remain a potential risk.
