Winter time, Mongolia is different! The sky is blue, temperature goes to 20 degrees below zero, the climate is dry and the sun warms up at noon. Milk production season is completed, Mongolian nomads have all their time for celebrations.
Take delight of the ice, in Khubsugul. The lake Khubsugul welcomes the most beautiful Mongolian "Ice Festival”. Lack of snow (alas!), but we invite you to participate in competitions of horse sleds driven by local nomads and traditional game of Ice cubes - Shagai. The International Skating Marathon will take place these days. We will attend the shamanistic ceremony of sacrifices for the Mother Sea - Khuvsgul Dalai and the King of Mountains - Khoridol Saridag.
Camel Festival, South Gobi. The association Mongolian Camel Polo will organize this joyful festival dedicated to the two-humped Bactrian camel. The race of 1000 camels, competitions which show best camels breeders and trainers, demonstration of traditional Mongolian costumes, children’s concert and camel polo match will take place during two days in the Gobi desert.
Tsagaan sar. Both festivals are held shortly after the celebration of nomadic Lunar New Year, Tsagaan sar. It is possible to combine the two festivals with the Mongolian Tsagaan Sar or join the Ice Festival and stay with Tsaatan.
Tsaatan - reindeer herders. These people live from reindeer husbandry, in the depth of Mongolian Taiga. Stay with them and discover their daily life, very simple but rich of contacts with the nature.
Eagle Festival. A mini Eagle Festival will be held in the National Park of Terelj near Ulan-Bator. Twenty Kazakhs berkutchi - eagle hunters from Bayan Olgii we will show agility and power of the Golden Eagle. These magnificent birds of prey are trained to hunt for the man in ancestral traditions.
